What is Bone Grafting?
In some instances, there is a lack of bone available for implant placement. This may require the addition of bone grafting to be performed either at the same time of implant placement, or in cases of severe deficiency a separate procedure for bone grafting may be required prior to future implant placement. This will become evident once a CT scan is taken and will be discussed at the consultation.
The bone grafting materials can be Autogenous (from yourself), Allograft (human-derived donor), Xenograft (animal derived) or Alloplast (synthetic). The type of graft selected is based on what would be most appropriate for the individual case.
The need for bone grafting may increase the healing time required prior to the final tooth/teeth being placed on the implants.
